Innovative drink-ordering app launches in Teesside nightclub

Empire, a historic nightclub in Middlesbrough town centre, is about to become the first venue in the North East to launch a WiFi-based app that could mean the end of bar queues.

Launched at the Empire on September 6th, Q App allows customers to browse through establishments and their menus on their smartphone before placing an order, which they can pay for with a credit or debit card directly from the app. A designated member of staff then receives notifications of the orders and manages them from a tablet behind the bar, prepares the order, and then lets the customer know their drinks are ready for them to collect or delivers them straight to their table.

This landmark of the Middlesbrough high street is following the likes of London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Ministry of Sound nightclub in installing the pioneering new system, and other North East nightclubs and bars may also be encouraged to offer the service if it takes off.

Ashley Wem, managing director at the Empire, says that “The owners of the app got in contact with me and asked us if we’d launch it here so we ae going with it – it’s a brilliant app. You don’t even have to bother moving!

It could take a while before people cotton on and for people to get used to it as all these kind of things take a bit of time.

But I’d rather order my drinks using it.”

To ensure the app runs smoothly and is easily accessible, the Empire is having a full WiFi system enabled in the venue.

This is just one example of the potential of WiFi marketing; by launching this new way to order drinks, the Empire is likely to increase the number of drinks they sell (as people won’t be deterred by large queues) and therefore profit, as well as show they are one step ahead of their competitors in terms of applying a digital mindset to their business.

Taking inspiration from the Empire and combining the power of WiFi and an app that solves a problem means that you can enhance the customer’s experience in your venue as well as potentially increasing your footfall and boosting profit.
